Library and Reading Room
Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre
The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre at Sri Ramakrishna Sharadashrama recognizes the importance of promoting reading and intellectual development among the youth in Ponnampet and the surrounding areas. To fulfill this objective, the ashrama established a Library and Reading Room.
The initial steps towards establishing a library were taken in 1934-1935 when a small library was set up for the monks of the ashrama. In 1946-1947, the library was opened to the public, allowing the local community to benefit from its resources.
On November 26, 2014, the current library, with 350 volumes, and the Reading Room, equipped with newspapers and magazines such as The Hindu, The Modern Review, and Prabuddha Bharata, were inaugurated by Srimat Swami Balabhadranandaji. Over the years, the library's collection has expanded, and it now houses more than 2000 books.
The Library and Reading Room provide a valuable space for individuals, particularly children and youth, to access a wide range of books and reading materials. By offering this resource, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre aims to promote literacy, knowledge, and intellectual growth among the local community.
